Last September 14-18, the first ever “Game Development Festival” in the Philippines was held at UP Diliman, Quezon City. The event, which was organized by the Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP) and UPITTC Y4iT, was flocked by both students and professionals from the games industry.

The objectives of the event were to increase local, regional and international recognition for the existence of the Philippine game development industry, to introduce the game development industry to students and professionals and to attract much needed talent to the game development industry. It also focused on developing original content that would showcase Filipino ingenuity and meet the standards of the local and global game development business.

The festival was packed as thousands of visitors came to visit the booths of different companies in the industry and catch the latest news. Summit for student participants had learned from talks of prominent personalities. It provided a sneak peek of what it takes to be in the gaming industry. The seminar was perfect for students who are in the path or want to pursue such career.

On the last day of the festival, a ‘Summit for Professionals’ was held to target researchers, industry professionals, and students venturing into the games industry and providing outlook and business information. Prominent personalities among them were Ali Kojori of Turnout Venture, David Tene of Gefen Publishing House, Allan Simonsen of Boomzap and Sec. Ivan Uy, who gave the keynote speech, and other major players, who gave interesting talks about the booming industry. Due GDAP’s initiatives and efforts with its Organizing Committee in which CheQ Systems played an active role, and the participation of students and professionals, the event was a success.
