Migration

Project: Data Migration for 40 Apps

Key Technologies / Platforms:

Oracle

Java

Project overview:

One of our clients maintains a legacy database, and eventually decides to migrate to Oracle Exadata. They contracted a System Integrator company which will head the project. CheQ was chosen to conduct the service testing for all the applications running in these machines, while Oracle will facilitate the technical setup for the new database.

Challenge:

Around 40 connected applications are affected by the migration. This requires a HUGE AMOUNT of test cases for regression testing. Dedicated Test environments for the 40 applications needs to be set up. And due to a tight timeline, System Developers / Analyst don’t have time to conduct system overview of features/functionalities.

Solution:

Only the most important tests were executed in this activity. We asked the help of our EXPERTS with experience on the affected applications to provide knowledge transfer sessions and PEER REVIEW of the test DESIGN, providing the Core Team with an overview and how-to test the applications. Our Test Manager coordinated the testing schedule with the system owners to have a DEDICATED test environment. For applications with 1 test environment, we coordinated the schedule with other testers using the same environment. We analyzed their requirements and conduct risk analysis for us to perform parallel testing with the system owners. The migration project was SUCCESSFUL.
